GOV AMAECHI HONOURED BY THE UNITED NATIONS!

 

Rivers‎ State Governor, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi has been honoured with the United Nations (UN) diplomatic passport for his contributions to human capital development as an ambassador of the UN.

 

According to a statement, the award, tagged: "Associated Fellowship of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research," is given for the governor's contributions in the education sector, placing Rivers as the best state in Nigeria, with 21st century educational facilities.

”It is also for the outstanding contributions of Amaechi, who is the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF), to the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) programmes in Nigeria and for promoting overall UN activities in the Southsouth geo-political zone of Nigeria, through the provision of outstanding facilities that can house over 15 UN agencies in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital,” the statement said.

  

The Rivers Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari also stated that it had positioned the state on the global map of United Nations offices, stressing that the Rivers' governor had been supporting UNITAR's programmes. Semenitari said: "The UNITAR award entitles Governor Amaechi to a UN Certificate that bestows on him diplomatic immunity, while on UN assignments.

"Previous recipients of the fellowship have been mainly drawn from Professors Emeritus with huge academic records in research in global governance, security, social justice, development and environment preservation."

UNITAR’s Country Director, Larry Boms, while also speaking, stated that in the longer term, the presence of UNITAR would attract more UN agencies to Rivers state.

Boms said: "At the moment, there are five United Nations' agencies in Rivers State. Housing these agencies in Port Harcourt would open up job opportunities in the system for Rivers indigenes to get into international civil service."

Amaechi, who was earlier honoured with an award by the UN for his development of the education sector, was honoured with a UN diplomatic passport to further appreciate his genuine channeling of resources ‎to the development of human race.

‎Amaechi had received the award of the Associated Fellowship of the UN Institute for Training & Research in Geneva, Switzerland. 

 The award which was specifically for his contributions to the Education Sector has placed Rivers as the best state in Nigeria with 21st century education facility. 

The award, in addition to diplomatic passport, entitles Amaechi to a UN certificate that confers immunity  whenever on any UN Assignment.
