Party Chieftain Goes Myopic Against Tinubu

APC Chieftain Mobilizes Islamic Clerics Against Tinubu…Seeks Their Support For His Son’s Guber Ambition
A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Lagos state, Alhaji Olatunji Hamzat is set for a final showdown with the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu whom he accused of using his vice presidential ambition to cause religious crisis in Lagos.
Hamzat is a traditional ruler in his home state, Ogun and he is also the father of the incumbent Commissioner for Works in Lagos, Obafemi Hamzat who is battling to succeed Governor Babatunde Fashola in 2015. The decision by Oba Hamzat to become a traditional ruler in Ogun State is however working against his son, Obafemi. The indigeneship issue is now viewed seriously by traditional rulers and other prominent indigenes of the state.
iReports-ng.com gathered today that recent reports of endorsement by Tinubu of another non-indigene of Lagos, Akin Ambode for the governorship seat is threatening the old political relationship between Tinubu and the senior Hamzat who called islamic clerics to a meeting at the Alausa Central mosque in Ikeja today where he mobilized them against the former governor for daring to promote “a Christian candidate against his son who is a muslim.”
Oba Hamzat was also said to have told the Imams that “Tinubu is trying to sacrifice a muslim candidate in Lagos in order to promote his own ambition to become a vice president. This has never happened in Lagos and has never been part of our electioneering campaigns or political considerations.” On the issue of indigeneship, our impeccable source at the meeting also revealed that Oba Hamzat explained that “if the indigeneship yardstick is going to be used to drop my son, what do we then say of Ambode who is an Ilaje man from Ondo state?”
After urging the Imams to spread the message of “the great injustice Tinubu is trying to do to one of them (Muslim)”, Oba Hamzat threatened to go public with the former governor very soon “if he insists on imposing a puppet who will be rejected at the polls by the party and the electorate in Lagos.”

  1. Can't believe this wonders shall never cease. Why is this man raging and ranting. Shouldn't the basis for his anger be on the qualification of the candidate instead of spewing religious bigotry. Absolute and arrant nonesense.
When the elders we look up to begin to talk like this its so disheartening.
I am not a fan of Tinubu, not even one inch but when hear people that are supposed to be respected talk like this you can't keep quiet.

  2. I can believe it alright! Our problem in this Nation has always been that our politics has always been based on religion and ethnicity. Merit or capability has always been played down and that is why we are were we are today. The Oba is very funny. What a bundle of contradiction. Lagos politics never ceases to amaze me! Anyway the whole system stinks! Nigeria is a Nation under seige! There is need for a total over haul of the system we operate in now!
