UNKNOWN gunmen, in the early hours of Monday, attacked a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Kushimo Lukmon, at his Abeokuta, Ogun State residence.
The hoodlums were said to have broken into his house at Ita-Eko area of the state capital, while he escaped death by a whisker, due to prompt intervention of the men of the Ogun vigilance service who botched the attack.
The victim, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune on his hospital bed, said six men stormed his residence at 5, Famuyiwa Close, Surulere, Ita-Eko, Abeokuta, around 1.00 a.m.
He said they threatened to kill him if he failed to jettison his ambition to contest for a seat in the state House of Assembly in 2015.
Lukmon said his assailants, who were masked, hit his head and arm with sharp objects, saying he lost his consciousness and was revived at a private hospital.
“They did not steal anything but they almost raped my wife and threatened to kidnap my children before they were chased away by men of vigilance service.
“I was also warned not to contest for Ogun State House of Assembly from Abeokuta South constituency II in 2015. They said what I saw is just a tip of an ice bag.
“My life is in danger, because I could recall that I escaped gunshot last week, also from unknown gunmen,” he said.
Efforts to get confirmation from the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, was unsuccessful, as he could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
In another development, there was pandemonium at Sharada industrial area of Kano, when unknown gunmen, on Monday, stormed a Lebanese plastic company, MC Plastic and whisk away, the Managing DIrector, Hassan Ali Zein, while two security men of the company, one of them a lady, were shot in their legs.
The injured were rushed to hospital as a result of injury sustained during the incident.
According to a source who was at the scene, the suspected kidnappers, numbering 10, arrived at one of the company’s annex at exactly 8.00 a.m while the Managing Director was busy inspecting activities in the industry.
As soon as they arrived, they ordered everyone to lie down, while whey whisked Mr Zein away.
The source added that the gunmen invaded the premises in two Golf cars and started shooting sporadically to scare people.
Confirming the incident, the personnel manager of the company, Mr Saliu Ali, said “it was shocking. We can’t believe what happened. In fact, everybody is still in shock.”
Also, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Magagi Musa Magiya, confirmed the incident, saying he police had launched special squad to arrest the perpetrators.
