Nigerian international,John Obi Mikel is set to remain at English Premier League side,Chelsea, despite reports linking him with a move away from the club.

Mikel has been linked with a move to over three clubs this summer,as his place in the Chelsea squad this season came under threat.

Following the arrival of Jose Mourinho at Chelsea on a second spell this season, the 50-year old has preferred the duo of Frank Lampard and Ramires as a double pivot for the Blues, with Michael Essien and new signing Van Ginkel waiting for their opportunities.

But Mikel’s agent,John Ola Shittu said that Mikel is not leaving Chelsea this transfer season,as has been sepculated.

“He loves this club, the manager knows him and likes him and he will not be going anywhere during this transfer window,” Shittu told KickoffNigeria.com

But Shittu did reveal that Mikel had offers to leave Chelsea this season: “Some clubs came in and expressed their interest but that is where it stopped. They were never allowed to get to the point where we could even begin to start talking about valuation or negotiation.”

Turkish side Galatasaray were believed to have been in the front burner for Mikel, with other links to Italian side,Napoli and also big spending French outfit,Monaco.

Explaining why Mikel is struggling to pen a place in the Chelsea squad,Shittu said that it was due to a lack of good pre-season for the player.

“He didn’t have a proper pre-season because he got a couple of weeks extra due to his Confederations Cup participation and then an injury so he is not fully match fit.”

“When he starts playing is down to the manager, but as soon as he gets his match fitness back, he will be in contention.”

But he did not rule out a move in January for Mikel :“We cannot say what will happen in the future. This is football and anything is possible. But for now, he is a Chelsea player, and is happy to remain a Chelsea player for the rest of his career.”
