Recently, one of Africa's most celebrated music icons, Innocent 2Face Idibia completed the burial rites for his father who died last August after battling prostrate cancer for two years. But what is unknown to many people is the arduous tasks 2Face and his mother, Mrs. Rose Idibia, had to carry out in order to lay their father and husband to rest.
It was gathered that a day before the burial, 2Face's mother was attacked by members of her husband's family. in the village. She was reportedly blamed for influencing her son not to yield to their demand for money during the preparation of the burial ceremony.
According to sources, the problem started shortly after her late husband died and the family invited the four children to inform them on what to do.
2face was instructed to build a befitting house for his father and also ‘grade’ the road leading from the nearest biggest city Ojapo to their home town Amufu, for easy access during the burial – and he promised to fulfil the obligations.
Although, 2Face kicked off the building project and the upgrading of the road, he, however, stopped the projects along the line, without tendering any explanation to the family members. Invariably, this action drew their anger and they vowed to humiliate him and his mother.
It was gathered that as soon as the funeral convoy reached the village and 2Face's mother alighted from the car, the village youths began to jeer at her. They were said to have thrown stones and sticks at her, called her unprintable names and accused her of being wicked. Some of them were alleged to have mockingly called her ‘Obu Michael’ (Michael’s husband).
The situation was said to have become so humiliating that Rose had to be sneaked into a room by her some of her colleagues, from Cherryfield College, Jikwoyi, where she serves as Vice Principal, (Administration). 2face had to remain in his car with wife, Annie and their two kids, Isabella and Olivia to avoid further humiliation.
A Reverend father from the local Mt. St. Carmel Catholic Church, Ojapo was called in to settle the case. Mrs. Idibia was said to have cried as she related her own side of the story.
While relating her story, Rose Idibia said, "Is it not wickedness that you would call on someone who is mourning his father to come and start a building project? When my husband died, they informed my son to come and build ten bedroom flat. He accepted and promised to do so, with the hope that a huge amount of money was coming his way. The building project started almost immediately but stopped along the line because of finance. So, when they called to complain why money was no longer coming, I called Tuface and he said because of the Ebola issue, the money he was expecting could not come, and he pleaded that they should hold on till after the burial. But his uncle refused that the burial would not hold until Tuface completes the house.
When we finally came home with the corpse on Thursday, they began to boo me. Some wanted to kill me by throwing stones and sticks at me that I stopped Tuface my son from building in his village," she explained.
