EKITI FACTIONAL SPEAKER LOSES ASSEMBLY PRIMARIES!

Preliminary results of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Assembly primary election held in Ekiti State on Saturday revealed that factional “speaker” Dele Olugbemi will not be returning to the Assembly.

His “deputy”, Mrs. Abeni Olayinka did not seek re-election.

The Nation gathered yesterday that a woman candidate, Princess Titi Owolabi, won the primary conducted in Olugbemi’s Ikole Constituency 2.

Olugbemi left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the PDP on October 16 during the swearing-in of Governor Ayo Fayose.

GOV FAYOSE WARNS OVER-ZEALOUS MEDIA AIDES!

...APOLOGISES TO OSHIOMOLE
-Warns Aides Against Insulting People

Gov. Ayo Fayose

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has cautioned his aides against verbal attack on the person and government of Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State over the crisis in the Houses of Assembly of both states.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti, the governor said that the media attack on Oshiomhole was the result of the zealousness of his (Fayose’s) aides and said he had asked them to stop forthwith.

The statement added that the governor had to “tender unreserved apology to the Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomole, for the actions of some of his aides who might have, out of zealousness, disrespected or dragged the person of the governor of Edo State in the issues of Ekiti House of Assembly matters that does not concern him in some of the national dailies.”

Governor Fayose asserted that he “has great respect for Governor Oshiomhole” adding that “any attempt by any of my aides to insult or disrespect any personality like Governor Oshiomole would attract severe disciplinary action.”

The statement added that “issues in Ekiti State should stop in Ekiti State and should not go beyond Ekiti State and no personality should be dragged or insulted in issues that don’t concern them.

We may today have party differences but our goal must be targeted at service to humanity.”

FAYOSE ATTACKS FASHOLA, SARAKI!

Fashola spoke recently and also wrote a piece asking some questions about Fayose’s victory and saying that Gov. Fayemi accepted defeat because he did not want bloodshed. Fayose commented on that in his interview and he had strong words for Fashola.

“I really don’t want to join issues with them, particularly, Governor Fashola because I like him so much. I like his person and I have a lot of respect for him. But Governor Fashola is talking from two sides of his mouth.

They say Fayose is not educated, according to them, but he is educated. He is learned but Fashola is not a product of internal democracy. Governor Fashola is a product of imposition, of god-fatherism. I remember when Fashola and Asiwaju Tinubu had issues, there were trumped-up charges against him through the House of Assembly.

I remember vividly that he had to go to the court to clip their wings, otherwise they would have messed him up. And even at that, they still kept a tab on him. How would you be a governor, not elected in a transparent primary, but selected by one leader and you would still be surprised if an election was won through due process? Fashola knows that when he accused Asiwaju of not allowing due process or internal process in the party, Bola Tinubu told him, ‘Have you forgotten that if I followed due process, you would not be governor?’ So he cannot appreciate due process politically. When they were nominating commissioners, he didn’t have one commissioner. He cannot equally say this is my deputy.

You know I chose my deputy myself, against all the odds. They gave him a deputy governor, probably, the only person I think he owns now is his wife. I am sure Fashola has forgotten that he is a lawyer and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and that the constitution of Nigeria says a man is adjudged innocent until otherwise proved by a court of competent jurisdiction. I don’t want to say anything negative about him. I would have asked a special adviser or somebody working under me to reply him, but because he is a governor, I have to reply him myself. Let me remind him very quickly, I was governor before him. He was an ordinary chief of staff at that time. I am his senior politically. If at all he knows anything about politics, I am his senior. We know the intrigues more than him. It is true he is sitting on a prime state like Lagos under the watch of his godfather, but he should not run his mouth. It is unfortunate that a man at his level is talking like that. I am an institution like his godfather in Ekiti. When I started, I didn’t have a godfather. I didn’t have anybody like the Saraki of Ilorin who put Bukola Saraki there. They should learn to allow democracy to run. I want to tell them, if care is not taken, they would lose Lagos. The tide, the movement is against them.”

US DEPLOYS 30 OBSERVERS TO EKITI!

US Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle
The United States said it had deployed over 30 election observers in Ekiti for Saturday (today) governorship election, noting that it is keenly watching the electoral process with interest.

A statement by the US Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle, posted on the embassy’s website, observed that a well-conducted election that reflects the will of the voters would both constitute an important demonstration of the credibility of the electoral system as well as bestow legitimacy on the winner of the election.

The envoy challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure that registered voters are able to cast their ballot efficiently and without hindrance.

He also called on the security services to provide security in an impartial, judicious manner; and the candidates and parties to play by the rules at every step of the process, while also encouraging voters to go to the polls.

Entwistle said, “This Saturday, June 21, will be a very important day in the life of Ekiti residents, as they go to one of the state’s 2,195 polling units to select their next governor.

“A well-conducted election in Ekiti that is free of violence and that accurately reflects the will of the voters would both constitute an important demonstration of the credibility of the electoral system as well as bestow legitimacy on the winner of the election.

“The United States Mission to Nigeria will be watching this election with great interest, and will have more than 30 credentialed election observers on the ground in Ekiti on election day. We hope all electoral stakeholders will seek to meet the high standards that the Nigerian people demand and expect.” Punchng

Indication has emerged that the Ekiti State governorship election will hold in June this year, while that of Osun State will be held a few months after.

Chief Press Secretary to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Mr. Kayode Idowu, said in Abuja on Sunday, that the timetable for the elections would be decided within the timeframe prescribed by law.

He said, “The schedule for the elections will be announced when the commission formally decides on the timelines – certainly, within the time frame prescribed by the law relative to the expiration of respective tenure.

“The elections won’t be held at the same time, since the tenures are not expiring at the same time. The general projection is that Ekiti will be held by
mid-year 2014, and Osun shortly thereafter.”

The former Peoples Democratic Party governor of Ekiti State, Chief Segun Oni,
was on October 15, 2010, sacked by the Court of Appeal in Ilorin over non-
compliance with Electoral Acts 2006 in four wards out of the 63 wards where a rerun election was held in 2009.

The incumbent governor of the state who contested the election under the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, filed an appeal challenging the election of Oni at the Election Petition Tribunal where he was declared the winner of the election.

His counterpart in Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, became a governor on November 26, 2010, after he was declared the winner of the April 14, 2007 governorship election by the Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan.

By the provision of section 178 (2) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, anelection to the office of governor of a state shall be held on a date not earlier than 150 days and not later than 30 days before the expiration of the term of office of the last holder of the office.

Former Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Chief Friday Aderemi is dead.

Aderemi, was acting governor of Ekiti State for three days (October 16 to 18, 2006).

He died at the State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti  after a brief illness.

He was aged 74.

Aderemi became the acting governor of Ekiti State when the then governor, Ayodele Fayose and his deputy, Mrs Abiodun Olujimi were impeached.

He was replaced by ex President Olusegun Obasanjo's right hand man, General Adetunji Olurin, who was appointed Sole-Administrator by the then President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He was a member of the old Ondo State House of Assembly in 1983.

EKITI: OPEYEMI BAMIDELE NEEDS HELP!

Opeyemi Bamidele Needs Help - Ojudu

It is time for all well-meaning friends of Opeyemi Bamidele to rise to his help and save him from his newfound journey brought about by apparent delusion and conduct disorder.

The lawmaker representing Ekiti Central, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, stated this in a press release signed by his media aide, Mr. Dimeji Daniels, in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday.

Ojudu, who was reacting to an interview by Opeyemi Bamidele published in the Saturday Punch of 28 December, 2013 where the latter made all kinds of spurious claims, advised him on his need to seek help,

Ojudu said he had been ignoring Bamidele's many lies, knowing full well that his hate-driven governorship ambition had eroded whatever little honesty he had before now, hence his lack of surprise at the unbridled lies emanating from Bamidele's stable of murderous desperation and consciencelessness.

However, unsuspecting members of the public who see Bamidele as a former insider in the ACN might be taken in by the bare-faced, conscience-bereft, hate-inspired and conduct disorder-propelled lies.

Conduct disorder is a psychiatric disorder found mostly in children, producing feelings of selfishness and lack of an appropriate sense of guilt. This, Ojudu, believed, is the only condition that could make a representative of people, who ordinarily should be honourable, sit down and think up events that only exist in his imagination.

Ojudu said Bamidele's hatred for him did not just stem from the 2011 ACN primaries which he (Bamidele) never won and could not have won but the former's refusal to get in line with Bamidele's gubernatorial ambition and betrayal of Fayemi. Ojudu said Bamidele had indeed approached him in Abuja to intimate him about his governorship ambition and also seek his support for same.

"I told him I cannot get in line behind something like that. Fayemi is doing well, why then do you want to be governor? I asked him. He had no answer for me other than that he was being muscled out and I asked him how, but all his answers were feeble and self serving. Bamidele seemed to believe that Fayemi should run every decision by him and I wonder in what capacity. As king-maker or as Fayemi's father or what? He has his cabinet. As long as he carries them along and is delivering on his promises, which evidently he is doing, what kind of patronage do people like us, myself and Bamidele, in the National Assembly need?

"Obviously, my position drew the ire of Bamidele, hence his many attacks on my person in the media. At some point, he called me a footnote. But he is burning all bridges behind him, forgetting that someday he might need to use those bridges again. If I were a footnote in Ekiti politics, why did he seek my support to oust Fayemi?"

He added that the claim that Bamidele was made his campaign manager by the party hierarchy "is nothing but an unconscionable lie from the pit of hell. Apart from his ill-gotten money from his 12 years in government in Lagos, which he thought he could use to buy everyone, of what value was Opeyemi to anyone in Ekiti?"

He further said: "During the last senatorial elections he instructed his supporters to vote Ayo Fayose against me, the candidate of his party and I still went ahead to defeat his candidate with a wide margin. You can imagine how deep his hatred and self-centredness was. This was when his collaboration with reactionary elements started and has continued till today. Opeyemi Bamidele is always about self. He always thinks about the next appointment or the next election and not what he will do to uplift the people.

"Ask him today what he wants to do differently in Ekiti, he doesn't know. He just wants to be governor, out of hatred, out of envy.

On the day Governor Fayemi was being sworn in, he called myself and a friend aside on the podium while Fayemi was making his inaugural speech and with green in his eyes asked us 'Will this fellow be able to do all of this that he is promising?' I answered him, 'Yes, he will with the assistance and cooperation of all of us'. That is our brother, that is the stuff he is made of. Rather than come up with a good manifesto and his agenda for the people of Ekiti State, he will rather come up daily with a new set of lies which he devilishly dishes out. When he was a commissioner in Lagos, we advised him to help Ekiti in any way he could to expose the evil at large in our State then, but he didn't. He told us he was a Lagos politician. He has suddenly become an Ekiti politician now.

"I have always been in Ekiti. I have always been involved in the struggle to make Ekiti great. How then could Bamidele who was never around until during the election petition tribunal be my campaign manager?" Ojudu queried.

The journalist turned politician advised the Ekiti Labour Party governorship aspirant to stop deluding himself with the claim that he won the 2011 ACN primaries, adding that it was pitiable that after two years Bamidele was still believing the lie that he bought.

"Let us imagine for a moment that he won the primary, did he win the primary for the House of Representatives that he occupies today too? He said he felt guilty taking a House of Representatives seat which he never won. If he is a honourable man and he is as godly as he claims, he should have resigned from the House of Representatives. Where is his honour? Where is his claim of godliness?"

Ojudu said in Bamidele's usual manner, he believed that money could buy everything, forgetting the place of God, the same God who allegedly asked him to contest for governorship in Ekiti.

"In spite of his money. In spite of his attempt to buy votes at the primaries, I still beat him, but rather than accept the reality, he was too deluded to do so. He continued to dangle the fake results in his hand as evidence of his self-preempted victory. That is the lie he carries on with till today. It is the same lie that makes him claim people are asking him to be governor. The same delusion that makes him to claim that Ekiti people prefer him to Governor Fayemi. Who are these people who exist only in his warped mind? I think they are the ghosts of his many years of irrelevance in Ekiti socio-political life. Those ghosts must be calling to ridicule, shame and disgrace."

Ojudu added that Bamidele's claim that Governor Fayemi was only tolerating him (Ojudu) was laughable. Same with his claim that I want to be governor. He is bent on distracting us from the task of bringing about change in Ekiti State. We shall not take that bait, he said.

"His attempt to cause disaffection between me and Fayemi, between me and Otunba Niyi Adebayo, between Fayemi and Asiwaju Tinubu, and between Tinubu and Otunba Adebayo and within the ranks of APC is an old trick that is dead on arrival. Does Bamidele know that Dr. Fayemi and I are beyond pettiness? How could Bamidele tell such lies against Otunba Niyi Adebayo who sacrificed almost everything to see him in the Senate.

"I wish him luck in his governorship endeavour. He should know that his childish lies will not win him a single extra vote in Ekiti as the 2014 election will be issue-based. So, Bamidele should get busy by retreating to a quiet place to write his manifesto. Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort is a good place to do that. He should take advantage of that. Maybe while there he'd see the futility of his self-hyped governorship ambition," Ojudu advised.
