Venice introduces new rules for tourists

Tourists who want to visit Venice in 2024 will have to follow new rules. Starting in early summer, the city will ban guided tours for tourist groups of more than 25 people. It will also be forbidden to use loudspeakers in order not to cause inconvenience and resentment to other people.

In particular, the Venice authorities are trying to cope with mass tourism and its impact on the lives of residents.

The latest changes to the rules will apply to group tourism in the historic city center and to the popular islands of Murano, Burano, and Torcello.

In the spring of 2024, Venice will start charging a €5 fee for foreign tourists visiting the city for 1 day. First, the authorities will conduct a 30-day experiment to see how the tourist tax will work.

"Recognizing the urgency of finding a new balance between the rights of those who live, work, and study in Venice and those who visit the city, we are the first in the world to introduce this measure," says Simone Venturini, a tourism advisor.
