UK HIGH COMMISSION INTRODUCES PASSPORT CHANGES

Ambassador Sarafa Ishola, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the UK, has unveiled a series of transformative changes aimed at expediting passport issuance and enhancing user experience.

During the annual general meeting of the Central Association of Nigerians in the UK (Canuk) on Saturday, May 27, Ambassador Ishola acknowledged the existing challenges within the current passport regime and revealed plans to refurbish the building for improved comfort.

To streamline the process, vending machines will be installed in the waiting areas, and the operational capacity of the canteen will be restored. Additionally, the high commission’s website, used for passport applications, will undergo a comprehensive revamp to ensure greater ease of use and user-friendliness.

Ambassador Ishola highlighted the significant progress made since assuming office in May 2021, including the clearance of a backlog of over 60,000 passports caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Under his leadership, the high commission has successfully processed over 120,000 passport applications.

In his announcement, Ambassador Ishola outlined several key benefits Nigerians can expect:Introduction of a dedicated customer service help desk to address applicants’ concerns regarding their passport applications.
Flexibility for individuals whose passports are not ready on the designated date, allowing them to visit the high commission after 10 am with their collection slip.
Comprehensive revamping of the high commission’s website.
Installation of a new vending machine within the high commission premises.
Restoration of the canteen’s functionality.
Planned enhancements to the website’s user-friendliness by June.
