The passenger, 28, fell between the platform and the Northern line service at Clapham South station, in south London.
She survived and has suffered what are described as "non life-threatening" injuries.
Horrified commuters told how they witnessed firefighters hoisting up the Tube train to free the trapped woman on Thursday morning.
One report on Twitter suggested the woman's coat had become trapped in the train doors before she was pulled beneath the carriage.
Another suggested the woman had been accidentally pushed because of overcrowding on the platform, which Transport for London (TfL) denied.
