Chelsea defender, Kenneth Omeruo has recovered from the injury which threatened to rule him out of Monday’s 2014 Fifa World Cup game between Nigeria and Iran.
Omeruo played all 90 minutes as the Super Eagles drew 0-0 with Greece in an international friendly on 3 June in Pennsylvania but subsequently picked up an injury following a clash with teammate Victor Moses in a training session.
He duly missed out on the 1-2 defeat to the United States at the EverBank Field (Jacksonville, Florida) on 7 June as coach Stephen Keshi opted against taking any risks.
“Omeruo had a slight knee injury after that clash with Moses. I didn’t want to take any chances and that’s why I left him out of the game against the United States.
“We had some scans on the area but it was discovered it wasn't serious. I wasn't going to risk him playing against the United States because it wasn’t worth it because we have so many important games in Brazil coming up,” Keshi said on Sunday.
The Nigeria coach has now revealed that the defender is fully fit and available for selection for Monday’s game against Team Melli.
“He’s okay. He’s good. He’s fit,” Keshi said on Omeruo’s present physical condition.
With such cheering news from a Nigerian perspective, it would require a development of monumental proportions not to see Omeruo's name the Super Eagles’ team sheet for the game against Iran.
Omeruo is expected to be partnered in the heart of the Nigeria defence by Caykur Rizespor defender, Godfrey Oboabona.
