The tenure of the other council Chairmen expired yesterday. According to National Mirror, Amaechi has forwarded the names of the caretaker committee members to the state House of Assembly for screening. The Assembly reconvened late yesterday (Saturday) to screen the nominees who are expected to serve in the 21 local government councils of the state for a period of three months.
Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Otelemagba Dan-Amachree, told newsmen in Port Harcourt that the House sat on Saturday to enable lawmakers screen the local government caretaker committee members. He said: “We had to sit on Saturday to enable us screen the caretaker committee members. You are aware that their tenure expired yesterday. “So in other not to create a vacuum, we had to reconvene on Saturday to screen the caretaker nominees,” Dan-Amachree said. Four local Government Chairmen were retained in the new caretaker committees which have seven members each across the 21 local Government Councils.
