The power surge emanated from the electrical junction box behind the witness box at 10.20 a.m., while the witness was being led in evidence by Mr Oluwatoyin Owodunni of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Immediately the surge occured, the whole courtroom was enveloped in smoke that caused panic in the courtroom.
But Justice Ipaye calmed the counsels and litigants’ nerves in the manner she conducted the proceedings.
It took the quick intervention of the court security personnel and the court registrars, who rushed to the wall to pick the fire extinguisher to douse the fire.
Justice Ipaye, however, ordered that litigants and counsels vacate the courtroom because of the smoke.
