From Sunday, a short-term visit visa for six months will cost £83, up from £80. A longer term visa that allows a stay of up to two years will cost £300, up from £278.
A new fee for a five year Tier 2 general/ICT application has also been introduced. The direct airside transit visa fee would be reduced to £40.
The Home Office had sought to limit most increases to four per cent, with further targeted increases to bring dependent fees in line with main application fees, to register as a British citizen and some premium services.
A staggered rise has been applied to the long term visit visa (greater than six months) with a higher rise to the two- and five- year visas to ensure the 10-year visa stays at its current level. A reduced fee for those applying to work within areas regarded as shortage occupations and to the direct airside transit visa has also been applied.
It had earlier been reported that a host of new premium services had been proposed to enable a fast-track visa application. They included a three-five day priority visa service at a cost of £100, a priority settlement application service for £300 and a super priority visa service for £600. Appointments outside of office hours would be made available for a charge of £50 and a passport passback service at more locations for £40 per applicant.
