His anointing has largely to do with his relationship with President Goodluck Jonathan. Their paths crossed when Olubolade was the military administrator of the President’s Bayelsa homestate. Since then, they have remained best of friends. Olubolade’s alleged endorsement for Ekiti governorship is seen as a tacit payback for the minister. But the unfolding scenario in the state may have put this in jeopardy. In the Peoples Democratic Party camp in the state, there is a general sense of disillusionment over the so-called endorsement of Olubolade and apathy towards his candidature.

This has led to a polarisation of the party but who dares questions the president? Sensing that Olubolade would be a hard sell, the president has openly promised to ensure a level-playing ground for all candidates jostling for the party’s ticket. It is in view of this that sources from the state are whispering that Olubolade has slowed down the tempo of his campaign. But he has not called it a day yet on his ambition to take over from Governor Kayode Fayemi.
