Suspected foreign criminals will be deported before they have the chance to claim their human rights have been breached under new Government plans.

Home Secretary Theresa May told the Conservative Party conference in Manchester that the change would be in the forthcoming Immigration Bill.

The plans will allow for foreign suspects to be kicked out of Britain as long as they are not at risk of serious or irreversible harms.

Any appeal they make would then be heard while they are out of the country.

The move is part of Mrs May's plans to halve the number of deportation appeals.

She wants to cut the number of appeal rights and end the abuse of Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) - the right to respect for private and family life.

The Home Secretary also reiterated the Tories' readiness to quit the ECHR if it was necessary "to fix our human rights laws".

And she told delegates the party would renew its commitment to scrap the British Human Rights Act in its next general election manifesto.
