As part of updated security measures, Birmingham Metropolitan College has said all face coverings, including hoodies and caps, must be removed so students can be ‘easily identifiable at all time’.
Some Muslim students have accused officials of religious discrimination.
Imaani Ali, 17, said: ‘We would happily show the men at security our faces so they could check them against our IDs, but they won’t let us.’
But business student Chante Young, 17, supported the ban on veils because ‘you don’t know who is underneath it’.
The college’s principal, Dame Christine Braddock, said: ‘Safeguarding is a priority.’
