SOMEWHERE in the greater Dublin area, the second biggest lottery winner in the history of the State is relishing close to €94m they won in last night’s Euromillions draw.
But the winner, who is immediately propelled to the 96th spot on Ireland’s Rich List, chose to remain anonymous after ringing the headquarters late this afternoon to claim the prize.Officials at the National Lottery headquarters in Dublin have revealed that the winner of the whopping sum - which is half of the total jackpot of close to €188m - bought their winning ticket in the greater Dublin region, including county Dublin.
However the winner will not be claiming their prize in person before the office closes at 5:30pm today, a lottery official confirmed.
"The winner(s) wishes to remain private for the moment however we can confirm that the ticket was sold in the Dublin region," she said in a statement.
And due to the size of the massive win, lottery officials are refusing to divulge the location where the winning ticket was bought.
“Because it’s such a large jackpot, we’re not disclosing the location,” a lottery spokeswoman said.
The jackpot is not only the second largest ever lotto prize won in Ireland but also the second largest Euromillions jackpot since a lucky punter in the UK bought a ticket worth €190m for the August 10, 2012 draw.
Limerick native Delores McNamara still holds Ireland’s record for the largest-ever lottery win when she walked away with a cool €115m in 2005.
