Twins in Africa, are an endangered specie. They are seen either as the key to a family's wealth and ascendancy or avoidable evil. History is replete with tales of the killing of twins in Nigeria before the worthy intervention of missionaries. Particularly, the history books are replete with the wonderful tales of Mary Slessor and her intervention in stopping the obnoxious practise.

Closely related to the twins saga in Nigeria is also the issue of female genital mutilation. FGM is condemned in the Western world but it is more of a thriving practise in Africa.
