An idea first mooted by the Labour Government in 2008 but was not implemented is now being dusted anew by the UK Coalition Partners, the Liberal Democrats.
This is deemed to act as a deterrent to ovestayers. This deposit is refundable when the person exits the UK as agreed. This practise is already underway in Australia, where bonds range from £3,500 to £10,000 and it is seen by the UK government as part of its stringent effort to stem immigration to the UK.
We wait to see how this will work in practise knowing the extent some people can go to enter the United Kingdom. This may be tantamount to a legal way of buying your way into the United Kingdom!
